Crotona International High School
2474 Crotona Ave.
Bronx, NY 10458
Student Population & Admissions Requirements:
The students of Crotona International High School are all recent immigrants who are new to the United States and new learners of English. When students begin at our school, they score at intermediate or below on the NYSITELL exam and have been in the United States less than four years. CIHS students come from almost 10 different countries and speak over 6 different languages. CIHS has approximately 340 students in grades 9 – 12.
Students attend classes in the humanities, math, science, art, CTE and physical education.
All classes are designed to help our students learn to read, write, and speak English fluently, while preparing them for graduation requirements, college, and the world of work.
Classes are small and students work in groups in order to learn from and help others.
Teachers use projects, technology and interdisciplinary curriculum in order to better support our students’ language development.
Career and Technical Education
In addition to other subjects, Crotona International High School provides career and technical education for students.
Internationals Network for Public Schools
CIHS works with our partner organization, the Internationals Network for Public Schools. INPS is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and support of the network of International High Schools that serve late-entry immigrant English Language Learners. INPS currently supports twelve small public high schools in New York City and two in California. Targeted national expansion is scheduled over the next five years.
